Yea Community Cancer Charity hosts fundraiser

THE Yea Community Cancer Charity (YCCC) hosted their annual fundraiser, Oaks Day, last Thursday at the Yea Racecourse. $34,917 was raised to support the many locals diagnosed with cancer in Murrindindi Shire.

The charity has given to those in need within the shire around $119,500 since their beginning in 2011. Last year they distributed $22,000.

In 2017, they changed their name from The Pink Ball Foundation to the Yea Community Cancer Charity, but the charity has always been local.

Simone Sier, President of the YCCC, spoke at the fundraiser about where raised funds go.
“All money raised stays within our shire. Once a patient is diagnosed, we send a card explaining our charity along with a cheque,” Simone said.

“When the charity started back in 2011, patients received a cheque for $250. The past few years due to the generous people who donate, and attend our fundraisers, and to those who fundraise for us, we now send a cheque for $1000 to patients.
