YARCK Rural Fire Brigade celebrated their awards presentation event on Saturday, June 1 at the Yarck Hall.

The Yarck Brigade has been officially serving the community for 122 Years and Service Awards and Medals were presented to volunteers in recognition of their commitment to the brigade.

It has been over 10 years since the last presentation so there were many awards to be handed out.

The celebration was well attended by a large community gathering.

Ross Sutherland accepted his 70 Year Award and shared interesting stories of firefighting and mateship over the years.

Outgoing Captain Marty Shaw took this opportunity to present the ‘Red Helmet’ to Kelly Wilkinson who proudly became Yarck Rural Fire Brigade’s first woman captain.

Kelly became Yarck’s first woman Lieutenant in 2021.

She was motivated to join the CFA in 2014 after her uncle, who was a volunteer with Scoresby CFA, tragically died while attending a motor vehicle accident.

Yarck CFA are very lucky to have Kelly as an active Fire Fighter… and active describes her perfectly.

In the time she has been a volunteer she has completed no less than 11 extra curriculum courses including Crew Leader, Group Training Leader, Heavy Vehicle Truck Road Craft, Four Wheel Drive Off Road Course, HazMat, Commercial Kitchen Hazard Prop Facilitator, Low Structure, Use of Foams, First Aid including CPR, Wildfire Suppression, and Breathing Apparatus.

Kelly has also been nominated for…
