ON Monday, October 7, 18 bowlers took to the rinks at Yea Bowls Club. It was a keenly contested affair. Every team won at least one game and there were no three game winners.

The inclement weather was very timely as it rained just after the second game finished and during lunch, before clearing up just in time for the third game.

Maurie Finn, Neil Rieschieck and Terry McInnes were the winning trio, with the highest margin over their three games. They were very happy to receive their winnings courtesy of Yea Machinery.

Runners-up were Mick Barrott, Ruth Hatty and Barry Moore.

Last Monday, October 14, 20 bowlers played in beautiful weather. A new format was introduced for the day. Two jacks were used on each rink and stayed where they finished, instead of being placed on the centreline as is usual.

This resulted in bowlers having to bowl to the jacks in very unusual positions, great practice for when the jack is moved off the line.

Scores were taken for the three closest bowls to each jack. This innovation was enjoyed by all and brought about real strategy, as bowlers had to choose which jack they bowled…
