ON Tuesday, April 16, Maureen Thurston became president of Marysville and Triangle Business and Tourism (MTBT).
Two and a half days later, after various meetings, she found time to be interviewed about her new role.
She joked that she feels like she’s jumping between the fire and the frypan.
The other office-holders for the organisation are pending.
She said prior to being elected that she would like to take the next few weeks to go out and learn from the organisation’s different constituents in Marysville, Taggerty, Narbethong, Buxton and everywhere in between to gain an understanding of what the organisation needs to achieve, and then in turn, provide a chance for them to get to know her, and some of the thing that the organisation is striving to achieve.
They will then be able to identify the people with the skills and capabilities which will allow them to move forward.
She noted that the member numbers of MTBT have dwindled in recent years, and she is keen to make the organisation more inclusive, as well as holding the meetings in different locations.
The first meeting appears likely to occur in Taggerty.
Traditionally, Taggerty wasn’t a part of MTBT, but in recent years, they were “welcomed with open arms.”
The organisation will be looking at a re-naming, as the current name puts Marysville first and then the Triangle, and having Triangle first seems more appropriate.
