FLOWERDALE local Rya Roberts has been sitting in first place of the Golden Power Series Championship for the last five rounds, with the leader board too tight to call the season early and the championship going down to the last race in Bendigo.
Rya shared his experience of round six and winning the championship with this masthead.
Championship clinched at final round
by Rya Roberts
AS it has been throughout the year anything can happen. However, after a good couple of test days under my belt and a new EKS kart added to the collection thanks to amazing sponsors I felt confident I could be fast and bring it home.
After a huge downpour on set-up day the sun shined for the rest of the weekend at Bendigo Kart Club for the final round of the Victorian Golden Power Series.
Qualifying was cut short due to a big accident but I managed to get the number 51 kart into pole position. From then on in it was head down and focus. All three heats I managed a strong start and lead the field into the first corner. That’s where I stayed. A clean sweep of all three heats with a good margin over the field.
It never feels like a real win until the final. While I had managed to secure the championship with enough points buffer by heat one, I still had a mission to complete.
I think I held my breath until the last lap of the final, just wanting to keep it clean and bring it home. Crossing the finish line in that first position, clean sweeping the whole weekend and clenching the championship was the best feeling.
What a season it has been, clenching the title just makes me want more. The plan for 2025 is to now move up to seniors and compete in the full Australian Kart Championship which currently sees…
