Alexandra 6.8 – 44 defeated Yarra Glen 5.9 – 39

ALEXANDRA returned to Rebel Park and hosted Yarra Glen last Saturday for round 16 of the Outer East League 2024 division one season, the Reserves welcoming Tyler Rice to play his first game with his father Jordan Rice.

The weather was kind, albeit cool, but at least the potential rain held off, the ground looking amazing despite the recent rains.

The Rebels kicked two unanswered goals in the first quarter before adding two goals to one in the second to hold a handy lead at half time.

The visitors took control in the third quarter with three goals to one to see the margin reduced to five points at the last change.

Both teams were keen for the win and the River Pigs kicked a goal to lead by a point late in the quarter.

Seniors

Alexandra 24.18 – 154 defeated Yarra Glen 5.3 – 33

THE Seniors needed a win to stay in the hunt to play finals, but the River Pigs matched the Rebels in play to be a goal down at the first break.

Strong words of advice from coach Nick spurred the players who responded with nine unanswered goals in the second quarter to take a handy lead at the main break.

Last Saturday, Scott Ferrier organised an MND Big Freeze fundraiser with the annual dip into the ice water enjoyed by Michael Coombs, Sharon Hedger, Steve Hedger, and Sam Kidd at half time of the senior football game.
