THE Yea Races were on again last Saturday, this time for the Nutrien Ag Solutions Yea Cup, with warm conditions and large crowds in attendance.

Newly elected Yea Racing President Alister Tait, who took up the position at the end of last year, spoke positively about the meeting.

“It was one of our better cup meetings that we’ve had for a long time. The official figures aren’t in yet, but we well and truly believe we had our 1500 spectators there, including our industry staff,” Alister said.

“That was good for us. That’s a very good number for a picnic country meet. And being our cup meet it was great. Great to see the crowd there.

“The track rode in good form all day, which is a credit to our track staff. We had plenty of prior bookings, so our umbrella packages and more were booked well and truly in advance, so we had a good idea of how many were coming.

Sacred Heart Primary School, they were catering, and they had a heads up for the barbecue and all that sort of stuff. It was good to have the early bookings, which is always a good thing.”

The club had a number of activities for children at the event as well.

“We are a family-friendly club. There was free face painting, free pony rides, and then also Kelly sports which go around to all the Country Racing Victoria tracks and do the activities with all the kids,” Alister said.

“And every kid got a race day pack, which is a backpack with an assortment of stuff….
