YOUNG Castella local Brody Hull became a national champion in basketball on Sunday, February 2, winning gold in the under 20s category in Ballarat.
Brody received a last-minute call-up to the second Victorian team, considered by some to be the underdog team and the development team, to play in the National Basketball Championships.
While the focus and hype was around the first Victorian team, Brody’s team powered through the tournament, beating seven other teams to head undefeated into the grand final against Queensland.
This final match was a tight one, with the Queensland team leading by one point going into the final change. The Victorian team that Brody was a part of came back in the last section of the game, winning the match 95 to 77 to take the gold medal.
Brody was a part of the Victorian High-Performance Program during his time in the under 16 and under 18 categories, giving him the opportunity to both train with and play against the other young athletes who comprised the gold-winning Victorian team.
He previously won a silver medal at the National Basketball Championships of 2023 in the under 18 category, playing for the Victorian country team. This gold medal win takes him a step further.
Brody started playing basketball at around seven years old and has had huge support from….
