Alexandra bowlers head to the finals

THE final four for division four is set. Alexandra will make the finals. Midweek division three played at home against Nagambie and had a good win. Saturday division six had a walkover from Shepparton Golf and division four lost to Dookie. With only one round to go, all divisions are looking for a last game win. Goulburn Valley Playing area Champion of Champion Singles were played on Sunday. The women played at Tatura. Alexandra’s Champion Lauren Gilchrist (after a re-draw) played Dot Best who was playing on her home green. Lauren lost but played an excellent game against a very experienced bowler, who is playing in the last four next Sunday. The men’s games were played at Shepparton Golf. Bob Mayfield played Brendan Challis from Seymour VRI in round one and won 25 to 14. In the second round he played Jason Carter from Tatura in a close game but lost 20 to 25. Jason Carter is also playing in the last four next Sunday. The club congratulates both champions.

Midweek pennant division three played at home against Nagambie. Alexandra won two rinks and the overall 65 to 57. The best winning rink was Ray Mathieson (skip), John Blamey, Pauline Gilmore and Terry Livy. They won 15 out of the 25 ends and led for the entire game to win 22-15.

David Nicklos (skip), Dougie Cooper, Christine Murphy and Denice Chisholm were eight all on end 11. Alexandra won the next seven ends to lead 20-eight on end 18. Nagambie had reduced that to 20 – 15 on end 21. Despite losing the last three ends Alexandra saw off the challenge to win 23 to 19.

Bob Mayfield (skip), Trevor Stewart, Coby Petersen, Christine Mayfield had a close game. It was 15 all on end 17, but Nagambie won five out of the last eight ends to win 23 to 20.

The last game is away to Avenel who are in third spot on the ladder.

Division four travelled to Dookie and had only one winning rink. John Cujic (skip), Dougie Cooper, Bob Benghamy and Scott Ferrier. Scott was a late call up as Ben Gilchrist had injured his knee. Alexandra won 12 ends including five shots on end nine. They were 28 to 14 on end 18 and though Dookie won six out of the last seven ends Alexandra won 30 to 21.

David Nicklos (skip), Bob Mayfield, Andy Tobias, Christine Mayfield trailed five to 15 on end 11 but had a much better second half. It was 15 all on end 17, but Dookie had a 15 to 21 lead by end 19. Alexandra won five out of the last six ends to only lose 21 to 22. A great effort.
