LAST Saturday was special day on the Redbacks calendar with it being the third Kellie Snyman Ladies’ day. As well as having a couple of games of cricket, the day is about acknowledging the contribution of the women of the club.
It is named in honour of Kellie Snyman who was the mother of current player, Jaidon Snyman and she was a pivotal member of the club’s committee until her sudden and unexpected passing from an asthma attack.
In keeping with Snyman’s role in running social events, the club organised music, face painting, and some delicious food.
This was going to be another day with both the A and B grade playing at home. However, the B-Grade match was cancelled by Yea forfeiting due to not having the numbers to provide a team.
Yea are currently in a red-hot forfeiting streak with last weeks A-Grade match abandoned due to ground staff forgetting to cover the pitch ahead of a downpour.
Yea’s B-Grade forfeit gives Alexandra an assured finals berth and should the Redbacks win one game out of the next two, they will earn a home final by finishing second on the ladder, without having to rely on the results in other games.
The A-Grade match was a dead rubber with The Redbacks out of finals contention and playing just for pride against top-of-the-table Tallarook. There were plenty of line up changes with Vinu Hewage, Ben Broadway, Banjo Fitpatrick, Levi Ronalds, and Will Ellis coming into the side.
Andrew Wood, MJ Hendricks, Harrison Christie had the week off.
Tallarook also had several personnel changes, and their side was not at full strength. Alexandra’s captain, Will Ashton won the toss and elected to bat. Tallarook’s opening bowlers proved effective by dismissing Vinu Hewage caught behind for four and then keeping the run-rate down. Mat Wal eked out 16 runs before being LBW to the bowling of Sam Manchester.
Levi Ronalds was run out before he could build an innings. Ashton and Josh Crane then built a partnership full of singles and twos that moved the score along.
Tallarook made a decisive bowling change by giving their wicketkeeper, Joshua Rudge a turn…
