150 Years of the Alexandra Standard
Are you interested in joining the team and becoming an outlet for either The Alexandra, Eildon and Maryville Standard or The Yea Chronicle?
This book is a compilation of articles from the first 150 years of the Alexandra Standard.
In this book we present 150 years of the Alexandra Standard which began as the Alexandra Times in 1868.
There are many regaling stories of yesteryear but I feel the readers will take most comfort in the fact that despite the changes from gold to mills, horse and cart to motor car, first telephones to NBN there is little difference between the people who established the area to those of the present town and surrounds.
We invite you to meander through the history as told in the pages of the newspapers, of which a few were selected from each year.
Of particular note, 140 years ago the townspeople were trying to raise funds to keep the hospital open and much more recently the town has been rallying for funds in support of Kellock Lodge. Time has changed the physical appearance of the town, but the social issues and fabric of society have not shifted from the town’s humble beginnings.
This book also gives the literary connoisseurs the opportunity to pore over the language and how it has evolved in 150 years.
