“THEY’RE off.” Who is? Well, the horses of course, as are the conventional clothes normally worn at an Alexandra race meeting, as is self-consciousness and the limitations of excessively hot weather.
The final meeting of the Alexandra Race Club for this part of 2025, was very successfully run on Saturday, April 5, with a well-supported country and western theme.
Although there were some initial concerns about the weather, everything turned out very nicely, allowing for a truly enjoyable day, and wow were some of those outfits, tops, hats, boots, etcetera, just superb. Out they came, embracing the theme of the day, with the musical talent of duet Naturally Kerley creating some tuneful entertainment.
The crowd, the race club’s loyal supporters, and first timers as well, did their best to make the most of the occasion, enjoying themselves, but hoping for a win or two as well. But they weren’t the only ones hoping to come out winners, with the loyal and supportive trainers and jockeys giving off their best.
Before moving on to the detail of the results, the Alexandra Race Club would like to acknowledge and thank the highly valued sponsors of the meet. Their generosity and encouragement is so greatly appreciated, and the club sincerely thanks their sponsors.
This was an occasion for all ages, with plenty to do to entertain from the littlies to the more mature, and for all adults that absolute thrill, especially so when standing at the fence, when those four-legged juggernauts come thundering down the final straight.
And how did they perform, those determined and courageous riders? Well, there were some who achieved well deserved success, and as is usually the case, others who gave off their best, but who didn’t get the candy on this occasion.
Race one on the card was the Welcome Harper Read Purvis Trophy over 1830 metres, was won by Troy Kilgower trained 8 Shouts well ridden by Sebastian Galea.
Presto’s Final Sprint Open Trophy saw Pine Valley come through trained by Don Dwyer and giving Shaun Cooper his first win of the day.
