ON Saturday, October 19, president Peter Weeks and treasurer Judy Blakeney from UGFM Radio attended the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia (CBAA) awards night on the Gold Coast, following the annual conference. Peter was inducted into the Community Broadcasting Honour Roll at the event.

Peter said that the award was “a complete surprise.”

The committee, mainly Naomi Booker, nominated Peter for the inaugural Honour Roll. The CBAA represents the 400 community radio stations across Australia and was established 50 years ago.

Peter explained, “This year they decided to have an Honour Roll to honour people that have done over 20 years of work in community broadcasting.”

Peter was unaware that he had been nominated, although the rest of the UGFM committee knew. Fortunately, they managed to keep it quiet.

Peter said, “I came up here to talk with the Australian Communications and Media Authority, and Community Broadcasting Foundation that help fund the sector, and some of the technical people were up here. We were having talks about different aspects of broadcasting and we were sitting down at the dinner on Saturday night and listening to all the awards that everyone received from community broadcasters across Australia through various programs and they talked about the new honour roll.
