LAST week Murrindindi East U3A members shared five days of free activities and events with other seniors in our community. This was part of the 2024 Victorian Seniors Festival, the theme was ‘Explore, Engage, Evolve’.

Events were held in Alexandra township and also out of town. The Eildon U3A community hosted a learn-to-play Mahjong, followed by afternoon tea. Three guests came along including the local councillor, Karine Haslam.

Alexandra offered line dancing, table tennis and tai chi, all at the St John’s Hall. Half a dozen or more new people came to these classes and judging from the smiles on their faces it won’t be the last time they come along.

Craft in the Garden with Greta was hugely successful with four different craft activities given as well as Devonshire morning tea and a nice lunch. A highlight of the day was seeing the faces of the four lovely Darlingford residents who joined us for the day with their carer Jeanne. Carmel, Joyce, Peggy and Ellen joined in with Pam Thompson to make beautiful hand made cards. They played at making recycled bird-feeders and fluffy sheep however one of the sheep lost it’s head.

Of course, the weather caved in for walking group but this did not deter a small group from walking Leckie Park and finishing with a hot cuppa indoors.

The grand finale of Seniors Week 2024 was without doubt the screening of Mamma Mia the Movie at the shire hall on Friday evening. Over 50 locals joined in the fun…
