EBONY Ockwell from Yea High School has recently been offered a place for herself and her horse Diesel on the team to represent Victoria at the Equestrian Australian Interschool Championships for Show Jumping.

Throughout the year she has been competing in many interschools, competing under the Yea High School banner as an individual.

She has competed at state level, getting third place overall.

The Victorian round of the Equestrian Australian Interschool Championships for Show Jumping is in September in Tamworth, with a variety of different disciplines of show jumping, horse trials, combined training, and sporting horse (games).

Ebony’s mother Nicole explained that a competition is held in Victoria, with all of the different school teams competing, or people can compete as individuals if their school doesn’t have a team, or they are home schooled.

“Ebony competed at the Victorian competition and came third, which was a fine effort considering that she had lost two pets in the week prior to the event,” Nicole said.

For the Australian championships, they only take the top two competitors for the show jumping.

An opportunity came up after one of the top two was unable to attend the event, and Ebony was asked whether she’d like to compete in their place.

She was thrilled, particularly as there had been only one point between the second and third placings.

The most recent competition was about two weeks ago. When they were on the way to it, they found out that Ebony’s grandfather had passed away.

She competed, with the support of a friend of the family, even though her family had to leave.

She did very well in the competition despite the terrible news.

Her mother commented, “It just shows you the kind of kid she is, and how…
