THE Strathbogies Responsible Renewables Community Group (SRRCG) are strongly opposed to Fera’s proposed ‘Seymour Wind Farm’ in the Murrindindi and Strathbogie areas.

SRRCG held an information session at the Country Club Hotel in Yea on Saturday, April 20, which 209 people attended.

Speaking prior to the event, Darryl Otzen, Secretary of the Strathbogies Responsible Renewables Community Group (SRRCG), stated “Fera have not made any public statements basically since May last year.”

He said that Fera committed to having quarterly community consultation sessions.

One was held in February 2023, another in May 2023, and one in August 2023 “with a primary school lecture on climate change… Probably two third of the people got up and walked out in disgust,” Darryl said.

In November 2023, people were invited to view the Cherry Tree wind turbines up close, but Darryl commented that they’re half the size of the ones planned for the local ‘Seymour’ project.

The February 2024 didn’t happen, and there’s been nothing since.

Darryl said that at the February 2023 meeting, “[Fera] said we have already signed up eight landowners.

We have enough land already to make this project viable. We are building a power station.

That to me wasn’t a consultation, that was a confrontation. It was a very heated meeting, that first meeting.”

He said that on the Fera website, there’s been an update to their investigation area for the there’s been an update to their investigation area for the transmission line route, where they appear to be looking down Whanregarwen Road.

Darryl said, “What people are actually doing is going around showing the good people of Yea district a map with multiple powerlines all over it that covers both east and west of Yea.”

This includes Molesworth, Native Dog Road, Murrindindi Road and Ghin Ghin Road from Highlands down to Ghin Ghin, and south to Glenburn and Murrindindi.

He said that they have been showing this map to individual landholders in the area, and is uncertain….
