Princess Alexandra statue update

MURRINDINDI Shire Council was asked for an update regarding the Princess Alexandra statue.

The statue, located in Jack Shiel Gardens, opposite the council chambers, was damaged in February.

The head of the statue was removed and has not been located.

Council advised that they are working with their insurer to facilitate the repairs to the statue.

They stated, “We understand the public’s concern about the statue, especially given its historical significance.

However, it’s important to understand that this is a complex issue that requires time and expertise to resolve.

“The statue’s head has not been found, and sourcing a stone mason with the expertise in the style of the statue will take some time, as will sourcing the marble.

The statue is insured, and a claim has been submitted. We are working closely with our insurer to manage the claim.

“A conservator has been appointed and is currently compiling a report with repair options and costings.

Repairs will be conducted with assistance and guidance from the conservator and insurer.
