THE Goulburn Valley Grand Finals for all divisions except division and two (held at Tatura), were played at Shepparton Park Bowls Club at the weekend. With 38 degrees forecast for the day, the welcome decision was made to begin play at 9.30am. Yea’s division six match was scheduled in the undercover, carpeted rink, which was more pleasant than playing in the full sun.

In what was a keenly contested match, Yea managed to hold the overall lead throughout the day and hold strong to defeat Euroa by nine shots, winning 61-52.
President, Leif Elenius along with Doug Shirrefs, Dick Dashwood and Judy Murfin got off to a flying start winning three shots on the first end.

By the break they held a dominant lead of 12 shots to six. Euroa fought back well to reach 11-15 down, but Leif’s team held strong, with a typically tenacious, 22-15 win.

Skipper Neil Rieschieck, with Terry McInnes and Maurie and Angela Finn gained the lead early on and did not relinquish it. Every end was competitive, with one highlight end having the shot bowl change five times before Yea won it by 2. Neil’s team held sway for a tough nine shot victory, 23-14.
