Bagpipes and tartan at the Yea Art Show

THE 38th annual Rotary Club of Yea Art Show opened with a flourish of bagpipes and tartan on Thursday evening with one of the best opening night crowds ever. It was wonderful to have so much support.

The bagpipes played by Rotarian Lachie Cooper, together with his brother Callam and his dad Jim, were an absolute hit especially when they played from the Yea Shire Hall balcony prior to the official opening. Lachie, Callam and Jim looked sensational in their full Scottish matching kit and sounded fantastic as well.

The show was opened by Juliet Risely, a past District Governor for District 9810. Juliet spoke of the importance of art shows to both the artists and to the communities who host them and of the pleasure that they bring to so many people.

Opening night attendees had the opportunity to enjoy a drink and finger food, while being the first to purchase if they found something to their liking. Many did, as 20 paintings were sold, including Best Work on Paper, Eucalyptus crenulata by Helen Miles. A big plus to Helen as this prize earned her an extra $1000.

This year’s judge was Drew Gregory. Drew is widely recognised as an outstanding professional artist with over 40 years of experience, and a winner of many prestigious national awards. Drew has held over 60 solo shows and been involved in numerous group exhibitions and is well qualified to make the difficult decisions of judging art work.
