ON Thursday, November 3, alongside the Coffee with a Cop initiative, Murrindindi Shire Council invited people to have Coffee with Council.
Malcom Scheele from council’s community safety team was in attendance. He said, “The aim here is to try to build relationships with residents and to make sure people know we are approachable and here to help.
“Council works closely with police with a lot of the matters that are raised, and we work on finding solutions together. A lot of things can get thrown around the community with issues so if we just have a conversation, we can find a solution.”
The main concerns raised at Coffee with Council were focused around flood matters, such as the displacement of people within the caravan parks, general issues with animals and replacing damaged fences.
With regard to fencing, he said that council have been in contact with Blaze Aid to see if assistance is available.
“If anyone has been affected by the floods, please call council as we can help you get the help you need, whether it be at a local, state, or federal level.” Mr Scheele said.
Another challenge for the community safety team has been cattle getting out on to major highways and roads. Angus cattle are a particular problem at night as they’re hard to see on the roads.
Although there have been fewer occurences in the last month, it is still a concerning issue, and council and police are working with farm and land owners to get appropriate fencing to solve this issue.
“We are here to help the community and if you have any thoughts on how we can improve please let us know and reach out if you need help,” Mr Scheele said.
The Snap, Send and Solve app can be used by community members to report issues and provide feedback, or you can contact council directly on 5772 0333.
