THE Victorian Government is giving Eildon and Alexandra locals better access to public transport and more freedom to choose when they want to travel.
From November 21, the current bus service connecting the two communities will be expanded from a two-day-a-week service to five days a week.
The community will now have access to two return services Monday to Friday connecting these Murrindindi Shire towns, giving Eildon residents extra connections to Alexandra and better access to community facilities for shopping and medical appointments.
Minor time changes will be introduced on the improved weekday service with the re-named Route V63 service departing Nihil Street, Alexandra at 9.10am and 1.20pm, and departing Eildon Shopping Centre at 10.04am and 2.14pm in the reverse direction.
These additional weekday services add to the existing early morning and evening Route 684 service which connects Eildon and Alexandra the Melbourne metropolitan area seven days a week.
New bus stops are also being installed in on Bayley Street in Alexandra and in Eildon at the Darlingford Upper Goulburn Nursing Home on High Street and Twenty First Street making catching the bus safer and easier.
Improving regional bus services continues to be a major focus of the state government. A further $109 million investment was announced in the Victorian Budget 2022/23 to improve local bus services in growth areas.
It is part of Victoria’s Bus Plan, which aims to better meet demand, improve accessibility and performance, and deliver value for money.
Minister for Public Transport Ben Carroll said, “Victoria’s bus network plays an important role within an integrated public transport network which is why we are introducing new bus routes and more services to better connect regional towns across the state.”
Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes added, “By delivering more bus services linking Eildon and Alexandra, we’re making it easier for these communities to take public transport and giving them more choice about when they want to travel.”
