KAREN Stillman is busy getting ready for two big events, raising funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

The first event is a burger-eating competition. It will be held at Kazza’s Diner, 1/46 Grant Street, Alexandra on Saturday, April 30, starting at 7pm. You can compete with others in the ‘bucking bull’ burger-eating competition. The shop will be closed to the public for food during the event, but you can certainly head along and watch.

There will be prizes for people who eat a burger in record time, and for the person who has raised the most money.

The second event will be held on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 8. The walk starts at Rotary Park in Alexandra. The 24km walk or run starts at 8am, and the bus leaves at 7.50am. The 14km walk or run starts at 8.30am, and the bus leaves at 8.20am. The 5km walk or run starts at 9am, and the bus leaves at 8.50am. People are encouraged to wear pink and to start raising funds now. Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed at this event.

Join your local community on Mother’s Day to support and honour those affected by breast cancer. Be a part of a small and passionate crowd with music, entertainment and plenty of community spirit. You’ll also receive a commemorative medallion, handed over with pride when you cross the finish line.

When people return to Rotary Park, the Cadillac Drifters will be playing, and there will be plenty of other entertainment, including the bucking bull, blow-up games and activities for children, henna, horse and cart, barbecue, curly fries and an ice cream van, a coffee van. The festivities start at 11am.

All are welcome to participate in the events, regardless of vaccination status.
